Oman Oil and Orpic Group will outline how their expanded polymer product portfolio meets the key trends influencing the packaging industry at K 2019 in Düsseldorf, Germany (October 16-23, Hall 6.1, N-04).
There is growing demand for lightweight packaging solutions that reduce material costs, improve efficiency and help manufacturers address sustainability targets. At the same time, food safety & security remain critical topics globally. Oman Oil and Orpic Group’s expanded polymer solutions portfolio addresses all of these trends.
With plans in place for the imminent commercial operations of the US$6.7bn Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) for sustainable polymers, the Group is now ready to actively engage the value chain. The LPIC investment means that the company’s portfolio now – next to polypropylene (PP) products – also encompasses polyethylene (PE) solutions for the first time. It has tripled the company’s grade slate that now includes PP-H, PP-R, PP-B, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE).
At K 2019 in Düsseldorf, the “Think It… Make It” campaign highlights how Oman Oil and Orpic Group will inspire the plastics industry transformation by collaborating with the whole value chain in making more possible with polymers. This means partnering with all stakeholders from machine manufacturers, to additive suppliers, converters and finally brand owners.
“We want to play a major role in shaping the mega trends impacting our industry with our PP and PE solutions. This is why we want to be involved with every stakeholder along the value chain,” says Talal al Awfi, Chief Commercial Officer, Oman Oil and Orpic Group.
At K 2019, Oman Oil and Orpic Group will present its Luban brand of polymers, which has been in the market for more than a decade and is now available in over 60 countries. Enhanced performance and cost savings opportunities for manufacturers will be highlighted, including the newly launched Luban HP1102LC grade. This is a homopolymer PP that is suitable for high speed tape (raffia) production, which provides high tenacity and improved production throughput.
Oman Oil and Orpic Group recently collaborated with a market leading machinery supplier to trial and benchmark HP1102LC against their reference material in flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs). The tests showed that by optimizing the processing parameters for this Luban grade, the lower required processing temperatures allowed for a reduction in energy use. HP1102LC therefore helps to address the demand for more efficient and sustainable solutions in Industrial Packaging.
Food safety is a critical topic in Consumer Packaging, where reliable polymer solutions can help protect food and extend shelf life. Oman Oil and Orpic Group products undergo regular and stringent testing to help ensure that safety standards are maintained for food grade applications. The company has gained US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approval for all existing Luban grades. “We listen to our customers in the food packaging segment and understand their concerns around food safety and hygiene,” notes Gilles Rochas, the Group’s GM – Polymer Marketing. “We are leveraging innovative plastic solutions to keep food fresh for longer, leading to less waste,” he adds.
A further area of strong potential for polymer solutions is food security, a major topic of concern in developing countries with fast growing populations. By adopting innovative Luban LLDPE polymers in Agriculture applications such as greenhouse films and drip irrigation tubes, crop yields can be boosted and food security improved. Agricultural products harvested also last longer through the use of the right plastic packaging solutions, leading to less wastage.
Meeting efficiency, food safety and security demands are just some examples of how Oman Oil and Orpic Group polymers are addressing key industry challenges. A detailed presentation agenda of #ThinkMakeTalk events will feature discussion on many of the key themes driving industry innovation today. For more information, visit their K 2019 website
