  • New additives, pigments and masterbatches to support China’s growth
  • Compliance with regulations and government initiatives
  • On-the-ground investments to shorten lead times & deliver customized solutions for market challenges
Shanghai, April 23, 2018 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, today emphasized its investment in innovation for plastics and growing together with China’s industries to help them develop safer and more sustainable products like e-mobility solutions.

Sustainable solutions supporting the e-mobility trend in China According to the government's forecast, China's new car market will grow by 25% from 2016 to 2025, reaching 35 million units. New energy cars will account for more than 20% of that growth, reaching around 7 million units in 2025.

Clariant’s Exolit® OP 1400, a non-halogenated flame retardant provides high thermal stability and outstanding flame retardancy to polyamide parts in electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure. It enhances safety with UL 94 V0 performance down to 0.4 mm and enables the molding of complex parts with no mold deposits and blooming. Licocare® RBW, a family of high-performing lubricants and dispersing agents based on a renewable raw material adds shaping flexibility and smoothness to automotive plastics parts. These additive solutions have all been awarded the Clariant EcoTain® label for sustainable benefits above market standard and therefore represent best-in-class solutions.

Easy processing Renol® compounds and masterbatches for engineering and high temperature resins provide heat and light stability, and flame retardancy, while maintaining critical flow properties in parts like SMT connectors. Importantly, they are available as small lots which enables customers to purchase only what they require and contribute to a reduction in their carbon footprint. Hydrocerol® foaming agent delivers performance benefits while also reducing the weight of interior parts like dashboards by up to 20%. This contributes towards lowering carbon footprint and vehicle emissions.

Being smart and sustainable is not a contradiction but a must for Clariant in China Clariant’s coloration solutions include PV Fast® Yellow H9G, which is the latest Clariant pigment to be approved by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) for the national food safety standard GB9685.

For the building and construction market, Clariant offers a new Telasperse™ PVC range for flooring which is simple, safe and cost-effective for the manufacturers and increases opportunities for more attractive easy-to-maintain floor coverings.

Christian Kohlpaintner, member of the Executive Committee at Clariant and based in Shanghai, comments: “At Chinaplas 2018, Clariant underlines its commitment to addressing the fast-changing unmet needs of both local Chinese manufacturers and multinationals from the inside, as the country shifts towards greater sustainability and new regulatory frameworks. Therefore, Clariant continues to extend its local manufacturing footprint and at the same time enhances its technical and service capabilities. We are also constantly adopting our portfolio to meet specific market challenges and be sustainable throughout the whole value chain.”

Sustainability-focused on-the-ground support highlights With its investment in Zhenjiang, Clariant Additives adds its first two fully-owned production facilities to the company's long-standing regional network of commercial and technical support. Both facilities will come on stream in 2018. A joint venture with Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co Ltd will also establish a world-class production facility for light and process stabilizers in Hebei Province during 2019.

Clariant is a market leader in masterbatches for China’s various markets. To meet the very specific needs of masterbatch customers, it is investing significantly to become even more customer-centric in its support. This includes adding eight more local production lines (2016-2018), developing a new workshop in China, and implementing the “Tomorrow-to-You” initiative to improve service level, targeting a 24 hour lead time upon request.

Clariant is also improving sustainability at its Chinese production plants, exceeding new Government targets concerning aspects such as emissions, and energy and water consumption. For example, achieving a general waste water reduction of one third at its pigment production lines.
