06 Jul 2017
With its unwavering commitment to contribute towards India’s social and economic development, Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd (KNPL), one of the leading paint companies in India, embarked on the next phase of its ‘Livelihood Enhancement Project’. As part of this, Kansai Nerolac reached out to villages in Uttarakhand and imparted painting skills to unemployed youth by Nerolac experts.
Kansai Nerolac has driven ‘Livelihood Enhancement Project’ for more than two years. The company started this initiative by getting its employees to train individuals across the country thereby, making them aware of painting as a career opportunity. Having trained around 2000 people in basic painting skills, Kansai Nerolac decided to spread this program to individuals based in the most remote locations in India as the next phase for ‘Livelihood Enhancement Project’. With this focus, the company conducted workshops in two villages in Uttarakhand, Mala and Sirasu in the Pauri Garhwal District. Over 60 individuals from both the villages were part of the workshops.
The participants were imparted painting skills through classroom as well as practical training by Nerolac experts. They were awarded with certificates and painting kits. The painters were also enrolled into the novel Nerolac Premium Painter scheme to ensure they get continued access to new trends and trainings from time to time. Kansai Nerolac will also connect them to local dealers in order to provide them with employment opportunities.
Commenting on the next phase of the initiative, Mr. Shrikant Dikhale, Vice President – Corporate Affairs, CSR and Administration, Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited said, “Kansai Nerolac, being a responsible organisation, contributes to the society by driving initiatives around issues important for social and economic growth. Today, India needs a lot of impetus on livelihood enhancement and skill development. Rural India has a huge potential and can contribute in a big way towards this need gap. By expanding ‘Livelihood Enhancement Project’ to India’s hinterland, the program will present an opportunity through which there will be holistic development of the entire community.”
Mr. Peeyush Bachlaus, GM Marketing, Decorative Paints, Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited said, “The painters trained are enrolled into the Nerolac Premium Painter initiative which runs across the country. This initiative provides them with a platform which enables them to get access to various advanced training courses, access to new industry trends, advanced productivity tools and so on for their holistic development. The painters are empowered to become self-employed by helping them get attached with local paint dealerships. This enables them to work with established painters as apprentices thus, ensuring continual skill enhancement and better employment opportunities.”
Kansai Nerolac has always believed that livelihood and skill enhancement is central to the development of the country. With this belief, the company convened training and capacity building initiatives across India to help unemployed youth get a livelihood. These initiatives also help professionals to enhance their skill level to ensure the skilled workforce is available for national development.
In the past, Kansai Nerolac also engaged with the painter community through its ‘Painter Skill Development’ program. This program was conducted at nine locations in Gujarat and Maharashtra to train painters with new designer paint techniques. More than 350 painters benefitted from this initiative.
