WASHINGTON, Aug. 24, 2023 — The American Chemical Society (ACS) is excited to announce two new grants and three new awards that align with the ACS Board of Directors’ Campaign for a Sustainable Future, which was announced in 2022. The campaign aims to advance chemistry innovations to address the challenges articulated in the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

Grants have been established to advance sustainability research at Ph.D.-granting institutions. The Early Career Postdoctoral-Faculty Bridge Grant provides up to $125,000 for two years to establish a sustainability-focused research team. Submissions are due by Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. EDT. The Principal Investigator Development in Sustainability Grant provides up to $50,000 to support a sabbatical to collaborate with new researchers in interdisciplinary fields. Awards have been established for undergraduate educators to promote green chemistry and sustainability education in classrooms and academic laboratories. Each recipient will receive travel support to attend the annual Green Chemistry and Engineering (GC&E) Conference to receive the award and present their work. The Rising Stars in Green Chemistry Education Award recognizes early career scholars with a $1,000 honorarium. The Teaching Green Fellowship award includes $10,000 for a faculty summer salary and $5,000 for summer student stipend(s) to develop green chemistry or sustainability curricular materials. The Career Achievement in Green Chemistry Education award provides the recipient $5,000 for innovative work in chemistry, and a symposium will be held in their honor at the GC&E conference.
