Physical Form:- Crystals from water. Physical Appearance:- Colorless crystalline solid. Melting Point:- 237 °C. EDTA (Ethylenediamine tetraacetic) acid is a colourless crystalline solid, slightly soluble in water. Edetic Acid is the acid form of edetate, a chelating agent with anti-hypercalcemic and anticoagulant properties. Edetic acid binds calcium and heavy metal ions, forming soluble stable complexes which are readily excreted by the kidneys. Edetic acid is a Lead Chelator and Anticoagulant. The mechanism of action of edetic acid is as a Lead Chelating Activity and Calcium Chelating Activity. The physiologic effect of edetic acid is by means of Decreased Coagulation Factor Activity.
