It is open when the ball's hole is in line with the flow and closed when it is pivoted 90-degrees by the valve handle. The handle lies flat in alignment with the flow when open, and is perpendicular to it when closed, making for easy visual confirmation of the valve's status Ball Valves are durable, performing well after many cycles, and reliable, closing securely even after long periods of disuse. These qualities make them an excellent choice for shutoff and control applications, where they are often preferred to Gate and Globe Valves, but they lack their fine control in throttling applications. A Floating Ball Valve is one where the ball is not held in place by a trunnion. In normal operation, this will cause the ball to float downstream slightly. This causes the seating mechanism to compress under the ball pressing against it. Furthermore, in some types, in the event of some force causing the seat mechanism to dissipate (such as extreme heat from fire outside the valve), the ball will float all the way to metal body which is designed to seal against the ball providing a somewhat failsafe design. With the advancement in plastic technology, new polymers are synthesized for demanding Industrial and engineering applications. To achieve high quality and desired properties these plastics require an extremely precise processing temperature. If the temperature of molten plastic entering the mould is at a slightly lower or higher temperature, the produced part may turn out to be defective. If the temperature is lower, the plastic does not flow evenly into the mould or fill all the cavities. A higher temperature polymer flow results in uneven solidification and longer hold-time. Heat transfer in the hot runner nozzle is therefore essential, to precisely maintain the desired temperature. To keep the plastic at the right temperature, the nozzle is externally heated using heating coils. Only at the very end - at the nozzle tip no further heating aid is used and the heated nozzle itself must transfer the heat to the plastic. Consequently, the thermal conductivity of the material is crucial.

Copper Titanium Inserts and Cooling Plates when used in the plastic molding dies, significantly reduce defects and warpage. QTi® also significantly reduces the hold time thus improving productivity and lower the cost of production per part. With the advancement in Plastic Moulding Technology and the development of complex geometric shapes required to be manufactured in a variety of plastic resins designed for high-performance parts, mould has become the weakest link in the value chain. Many designs fail to fully consider all the dynamics of the moulding process because of the lack of insightful data or non-availability of materials that can meet the demands of the process. This results in approximations in tool design and sub-optimal product quality. Tool steels continue to be the most widely used and accepted materials not only for the larger tool but also for cores, inserts and cavities. While tool steels are useful for their properties and lower cost, there is a tendency among mould designers to ignore other high-performance materials, mainly due to cost optimization. This results in making serious sacrifices to mould life and performance, and also lower quality consistency of the part. Inserts or cavities made from steel have poor thermal conductivity making them ineffective as they are unable to extract heat quickly from molten plastic, leading to uneven cooling, resulting in porosity and shrinkage defects. Inserts are effective when they can extract and dissipate heat quickly, allowing the process to cool faster and more uniformly across the cross-section.

Core Pins, Inserts and Chill Vents made from Copper Titanium (QTi®) alloy help Die Casters reduce shrinkage and casting rejections. Copper Titanium has good thermal conductivity and high wear resistance even at elevated temperatures. Core pins and inserts in dies are subjected to high thermal and mechanical stresses in GDC, LPDC & HPDC Casting process. Core Pins made of steel can withstand the wear but are unable to extract heat quickly due to poor thermal conductivity, which results in uneven shrinkage and porosity in the casting. Copper Titanium Core Pins and Inserts provide an excellent combination of high thermal conductivity and good wear resistance. QTi Inserts are much harder than other competing copper alloys and exhibit thermal conductivity up to 5 to 10 times greater than steel pins. High hardness of Copper Titanium alloy provides excellent wear resistance. This significantly increases the life of the pin, and dramatically reduces casting rejections. QTi® alloy provides excellent corrosion resistance and has inherent lubricity and galling resistance. QTi® pins can be coated with a super-hard PVD coating thus increasing their surface wear resistance even more, without any compromise on the thermal conductivity. The coated pins and inserts can be used in very demanding applications and the integrity of the casting can be maintained and rejections reduced.
